Inauguaration lifts my spirits and hope for a new era for our country.

If you are like me, all the negative business news we have heard and been part of for the last few months can create a sense of confusion and test your positive outlook on life. I have always felt I could control my destiny, but melt downs like we have seen in the banking and the investment world lately have caused me to wonder if the United States is spinning out of control. For me, the event of Barrack Obama’s inauguration as the President of the United States brings a refreshing wave of new energy and optimism into every American life. It should remind us of how lucky we are to live in this free country. It is my hope that it is now our time to be part of a thoughtful, intelligent and inspiring approach to governance which will start to lead us in a new direction. The old world of greed in business and lack of respect for our environment is a time passed. Now we must roll up our sleeves and get back to work to produce real value for our rewards, find real approaches to sustainable living and develope real relationships with the world of nations we are a part of.

Confidence in real estate is going to coincide with confidence in the economy as a whole. There are a number of things that will create that confidence, the change of administration being one of them. I think we will look back at this day as one of the events that spurred capital investment back into real estate and the economy as a whole.

The inauguration was a turning point in Americans' conception of the economy. There is a new sense of optimism that Obama has what it takes to get our economy back on track. But in Obama's own words, the economy will probably get worse before it gets better, which seems to be the case as our nation's unemployment figures continue to escalate and questions arise as to the potential effectiveness of Obama's proposed economic stimulus package. Despite the fact that it is definitely a buyers' market, the real estate industry may remain in a slump for some time before it picks up again. However, though the exact turn around remains unseen, at least we can all cherish the new found optimism for a while.

This blog and its corresponding comments, all speak to the question of "whether the inauguration will be a turning point for real estate." Interestingly, we have been posing a poignant question, similar to this one, every Friday in the Aspen Times, and yet this question drove the most individuals to our blog. Why did it spur more curiosity than the others? Was the inauguration what everyone had been waiting for to ease their nerves? Or have we perhaps put too much emphasis on it?
